The water cycle

Protect

Through balanced management of withdrawals and support for agricultural practices towards sustainable models, Eau de Paris protects the resource at source.

Capture and transport

Half of the water distributed in Paris comes from groundwater, located 150 km from the capital. The water is then transported to Paris via century-old aqueducts (470 km in total) and by simple gravity. The other half comes from the Seine and the Marne.

treat

The water is treated in one of the seven Eau de Paris treatment plants. These modern channels rely on advanced technologies (ultraviolet, ultrafiltration, multi-barrier strategy) to guarantee absolute health safety.

Store

Once made drinkable, the water is stored in 5 large reservoirs (Montsouris, Saint-Cloud, L'Haÿ-les-Roses, Les Lilas, Ménilmontant), which can contain a total of up to 1,1 million m3 of water, i.e. 2 days of consumption.

Distribute

Drinking water is distributed at the foot of each dwelling thanks to a network of 2 kilometers of pipes. Throughout Paris, 000 fountains and drinking water points give everyone permanent access to quality water.

Follow

The water is checked on average 10 times from source to tap by the Eau de Paris laboratory and the health control of the Regional Health Agency. And subscribers and users have access to 24/24 customer service.
