Innovative fountains to cool the city
Cooling the city during heat peaks is a major challenge for the City of Paris. To meet this challenge, Eau de Paris has imagined and designed, with the help of its service providers, “2 in 1” fountains: fun devices that combine water distribution for drinking and misting.
These innovations embody Eau de Paris' commitment to finding new uses to make Paris a more resilient and sustainable city.
5 Wallace fountains were equipped in 2021 with an invisible misting system, designed by the Eau de Paris teams. In case of high heat, misting is triggered automatically every 4 minutes. By 2026, around fifty Wallace fountains should be equipped with this system.
These fountains are integrated into the network of 1200 Parisian public fountains supplied and maintained by Eau de Paris.

Non-potable water, an asset for a greener and cooler city
If it cannot be consumed, undrinkable water is an asset for making Paris a cooler city, capable of adapting to the effects of climate change.
Non-drinking water emits 7 to 8 times less CO2 equivalents per m3 distributed than drinking water.
Untreated, non-potable water in Paris is used for various urban uses, such as watering the capital's many green spaces. It thus plays a central role in the refreshing and resilience of the city.
